Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration.                                                                                                               Abraham Lincoln

Here's this week's news from the CWA Health Care Campaign:

The myth of the "Cadillac health plan"
There's a dangerous myth out there in the health reform debate: the myth of the "Cadillac plan" with lavish benefits. The myth is dangerous because it leads some to conclude that it's a good idea to make health benefits subject to income and other taxes, since a only a few rich people with overly-generous benefits would have to pay the tax. A new study shows that the facts contradict the myth.

Health care reform will shore up Medicare
The trustees for Medicare and Social Security warned that the Medicare trust fund, which pays for hospital care for the elderly and disabled, will run out of money by 2017, just eight years away. This adds to the case that health reform is urgent.

The health reform plan isn't ready yet, but the arguments against it are
We're not sure exactly what kind of health plan will emerge from all the ongoing work at the White House, in five different committees and Congress and in meetings with stakeholders. But whatever the shape of the final plan, we know what arguments the Republicans are planning to use against it. If we don't know what the plan is, how do we know the arguments against it? Because Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster and strategist, spoke to party operatives on Capitol Hill last week, and his memo got leaked.

To shed light on executive pay, the AFL-CIO released Executive PayWatch 2009 earlier today. In this report, we learn that CEO perks alone grew in 2008 to an average of $336,248—or nine times the median salary of a full-time worker.

As health care is and will continue to grow as an issue we will face more and more challenges that frankly many of us do not understand or are not prepared to meet.  We have taken health care for granted.  We will be posting links to take you where you may get valuable information on health issues you may have interest.  The links are posted below and we will be adding others.
